Forty years ago, from February 22 to 25, 1986, more than a million Filipinos asserted a simple and enduring democratic truth: sovereignty resides in the people. The EDSA People Power uprising ended a dictatorship sustained by repression, patronage, and fear, thereby restoring democratic space that had been forcibly
closed.

The UP Diliman (UPD) University Council stands in solidarity with our students and the Filipino people in expressing outrage, demanding accountability, and calling for an end to systemic, rampant corruption and plunder that plague the nation.

We, members of the University Council of the University of the Philippines Diliman, add our voices to the call for the Senate of the Philippines to begin the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The UP Diliman (UPD) University Council (UC) supports the College of Arts and Letters’
(CAL) assertion for a permanent and quality administrative base, and teaching and
research spaces it can call its own.
