A team of assessors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations University Network (AUN) recently visited UP Diliman (UPD) to evaluate four of its programs for quality assurance.
According to the AUN website, higher education institutions from some ASEAN countries collaborated in 1995 to “develop a regional identity and solidarity while promoting the fostering of ASEAN talents by creating a platform to allow the region’s leading higher education institutions to collaborate.” This initiative is now known as the AUN.

From Aug. 25 to 28, a team composed of nine assessors from the AUN examined all aspects and actors involved in UPD’s Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Library and Information Science programs.
The UPD Quality Assurance Office reported that the assessors evaluated these programs based on expected learning outcomes, program structure and content, teaching and learning approaches, student assessment, academic staff qualifications, student support services, facilities and infrastructure, and program output and outcomes.
At the concluding ceremonies held on Aug. 28 at the Malcolm Hall Theater, Ngo Van Thuyen, PhD, AUN lead assessor, shared that the team gained valuable insights from their visit. They highlighted the academic programs’ strengths, identified areas for improvement, and presented recommendations for enhancement.
“I hope that when we meet again for another program assessment in the future, we will observe the improvements from both sides to show that we are in this journey together in the pursuit of academic excellence, as they continuously evolve,” he said.

Ngo is associate professor at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.
Speaking for UPD Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Maria Vanessa Lusung-Oyzon echoed the sentiment.
“This is our chance to push for innovation in how we teach, how we conduct research and engage with our stakeholders. Let this be a time of transformation where decisions are guided by evidence and quality assurance becomes a natural part of the way we do things in the university. Looking ahead, we continue to build on this momentum,” she said.
Lusung-Oyzon also announced that in November 2025, BS programs in civil engineering, computer engineering, electronics engineering, electrical engineering, and geodetic engineering will undergo accreditation from the Philippine Technological Council Accreditation and Certification Board for Engineering and Technology.
