Nita Abrogar-Quinto

(FEB. 27)—Professor Nita Abrogar-Quinto of the UP College of Music, passed away on February 26 due to complications from cancer. She was 63.

One of the leading pianists in the country, she has been a soloist of the Manila Symphony Orchestra, UP Orchestra, the Metro Manila Orchestra and the UP String Chamber Orchestra.

She joined the UPCM faculty on June 1, 1975 and became the chair of the Piano Department from 1997 to 2005. She was also a former advisory board member of the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts.

She earned her post graduate course in Piano Performance Techniques and Master of Music degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England. She obtained her Bachelor of Music at UPD.

Abrogar is survived by her children Julian Paulo Quinto and Katrina Belle Quinto-Camacho.

Her remains may be viewed at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice starting today. —Haidee C. Pineda
