Understanding Seafarers: Identities, Narratives and Contexts

An international symposium, “Understanding Seafarers: Identities, Narratives and Contexts” will be held at the Palma Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman, on November 18, 2019. This event is organized by the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy thru its Folklore Studies Program (under the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs), in partnership with Cardiff University, United Kingdom, and supported by the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and Tolentino & Bautista Law Offices.

The international symposium aims to gather industry players, researchers, policy-makers, government workers, faculty, students, volunteers and civil society members who work around the issue of seafarer welfare, migration, development, Overseas Filipino Workers, gender and sexuality, etc., to talk about the human and social dimension of the global phenomenon of Filipino seafarers.
