Exhibitions open from 10:00 a.m., 21 February
FA Week 2017 is a weeklong annual event that aims to showcase and celebrate the talents of the Fine Arts students and to develop their critical knowledge through workshops, artist talks, and situationers. The purpose of this event is to enable the different departments in the College of Fine Arts to learn from each other and to share to the public the triumphs and challenges the artists now face today.
This year’s theme, FAlayain, was chosen to highlight how Filipino art remains endangered in the face of many challenges and to reflect on the call for freedom to create art that is socially-relevant and responsive to current social issues.
FA Week 2017 opens with FAkain: an exhibit opening at the Corredor Gallery at 10:00 a.m. Events include a food bazaar; class exhibitions; “Tayo Ba Ay Tunay Na Malaya?” , an art exhibition curated by the UPCFA Student Council; and “Aklass Series” of talks and workshops. Among the featured for the talks are Gerilya, musical artist and rapper BLKD, and 98-B Collective, while events include workshops in woodcarving, traditional music instrument making, and prosthetics making. Various booths initiated by students and their organizations will showcase the different activities of UPCFA students as well as promote art-related merchandise and enterprises they have initiated. A concert at the UPCFA Parking Lot on the evening of February 24 caps the weeklong fair.
