The UAAP’s second semester games will open on November 27 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan with the first matches of the Volleyball tournament as the opener for the eight tournaments scheduled.
Four matches are scheduled for that day: De La Salle University (DLSU) vs. National University (NU) and Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) vs. University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the men’s division, and Far Eastern University (FEU) vs. NU and ADMU vs. UST in the women’s division. Games will be held every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at the Filoil Arena.
The seven other events for the semester are baseball, softball, lawn tennis, fencing, chess, track and field and football.
The baseball tournament starts on November 28 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) with UP going against DLSU as part of the first three matches. The second round of the tournament will start in January 9, 2011.
The same goes for the softball tournament, which starts on December 1 at the UPD track and field oval. UP will be battling it out with the University of the East (UE) as part of the first three matches. The start of the second round will be on January 8, 2011.
From December 9-11, ADMU will host the fencing tournament while FEU will host the chess tournament at their New Tech Mini Auditorium.
The first games for lawn tennis will be on January 8, 2011 at the RMSC, with UP going against ADMU and UST in the men’s and women’s division, respectively as part of that day’s matches. The second round begins on January 29, 2011.
The football tournament opens on January 16, 2011 at the ADMU field, with UP going up against FEU in both the women’s and men’s divisions as part of the day’s matches. The second round begins on February 5, 2011.
UP will host the Track and Field tournament from February 1-4, 2011, to be held at either the RMSC or the University of Makati.
The game schedule was announced during a thanksgiving luncheon along Macapagal Avenue by Season 73 host DLSU.
To cap off the season, two new events were added for the closing ceremonies: a streetdance competition which will pit the different groups of each member university against each other, as well as a photography competition.
The photography competition is open to print, online and campus photographers, and carries a cash prize of P10,000 for the first prize, P7,000 for the second prize and P5,000 for the third prize. Awarding ceremonies will be on March 2011 at the Araneta Coliseum.
The organizers emphasized the importance of every sport in the UAAP, saying that the games played in the second semester are just as valued as those in the first semester.
