Association cut the ribbon to formally open the "Bozzetos" and
"Arkitektura+Moda" exhibits at the Bulwagan ng Dangal.
February 16—Two exhibits formally opened at the Bulwagan ng Dangal (BnD) on February 7 in time for the celebration of UP Diliman month.
Bozzetos was first presented at the Auditorium al Duomo in Florence Italy from October 16 to 18, 2010 as part of the Philippine Cultural Festival (Festival dell’ Arte Filippina) with the theme Philippines-Italy: Cultural Nexus. Curated by Professor Rubén D.F. Defeo, director of the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts and UP Diliman Information Office, it was sponsored by the Juan C. Angara Foundation, the Philippine-Italy Association, Boysen, Bticino, Trevi Group, Rustan’s and the DMCI Homes.
Bozzettos featured works on paper done by renowned artists Leo Abaya, Bim Bacaltos, Alfred Rey Capiral, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, Lito Carating, Reynaldo Concepcion, Denes Dasco, Joy Dasco, Rubén De Jesus, RM De Leon, Anton del Castillo, Neil Doloricon, Daki Fernando, Lico, Leonore RS Lim, Lina Llaguno-Ciani, Jay Lozada, Gerardo Lucena, Jamel Obnamia, Christina Quisumbing Ramilo, Riza Romero, Danilo Silvestre (former College of Architecture dean), Nestor Olarte Vinluan (former College of Fine Arts dean), JunYee and Phyllis Zaballero.
Arkitektura+Moda: Stylistic Parallels of Architecture and Fashion, on the other hand, was curated by Dr. Gerard A. Lico, the Office of the Campus Architect director. It featured a 15-piece collection of avant-garde interpretations of designers Ivan Raborar of Koronadal City, Emi Alexander Englis (Davao City) and Pepe Quitco, Joey Rodriguez and Wilfred Yee (Cotobato City) and probes into the stylistic congruence of architecture and fashion.
The two exhibits will run until March 31.
At the program, Silvestre welcomed the audience and guests while Defeo gave a brief background of the exhibits and introduced the artists. Senator Edgardo J. Angara, who was one of the sponsors of the Bozzetos’ exhibit in Italy, also gave a special message.
Other special guests were UPD Chancellor Sergio S. Cao, His Excellency Ambassador Luca Fornari, Italian ambassador to the Philippines; Dott. Fabio Fanfani, honorary Philippine Consul to Firenze; Simone Giometti, secretary-general of Fondazione Romualdo del Bianco; and Conrad Calalang, representing both Rustan’s and the Philippine-Italian Association.
The UP Varsity Pep Squad performed a dance number while Lara and Nanette M. Maigue presented a song number during the program. Ambiance music was provided by the UP Jazz Ensemble.-Haidee Pineda
