(College of Engineering, Feb.21)—UP Diliman College of Engineering (CoE) Library’s “The Learning Commons” is the Philippine Association of Academic and Research Librarians’ Outstanding Library Program of the Year by
The Learning Commons was recognized for its creative use of technology and ergonomics to create a modern learning environment for UP's engineering community. Its citation, which was awarded at the National Library in Ermita, Manila on January 28, recognized it for “providing a world-class research facility, for encouraging interaction and collaborative learning."
The library was also acknowledged as an exemplary model of how academic libraries can create new services to support learning, teaching and research, while at the same time responding to the changing lifestyles of faculty and students. As a library program, it illustrates how resources should be maximized to create value-added services for users.
The Outstanding Library Program of the Year Award is given to an academic or research library in recognition of its outstanding library program that contributes to Philippine academic librarianship and library development in the Philippines. The program must have a strong impact on the library community, and should be innovative, sustainable, and may be replicated in other library communities, or institutions.
