SURP prof is SEARCA professorial chairholder


Dr. Crispin Emmanuel D. Diaz

(Feb.21)--Dr. Crispin Emmanuel D. Diaz, an associate professor at the UP Diliman (UPD) School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP) received the SEARCA (Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture) Professorial Chair for School Year 2010-2011 and is now in the roster of the 248 awardees from the UP System.

Diaz is pursuing the research “Exploring the Funding and Management of the Construction and Maintenance of Rural Roads through Public-Private Partnerships.” The said study aims to examine the institutional and system of organizational responsibility for rural roads, specifically, farm-to-market roads. It also seeks to examine the issues that have contributed to the poor delivery of much needed rural roads in the Philippines and explore the possibility of PPPs as a method of delivery of rural roads and to describe the mechanisms for their application.

According to the SEARCA website, the professorial chair program aims “to give due recognition to the experts among UP academic staff in specific fields of discipline under the broad themes of agricultural competitiveness and natural resource management. Awardees have a minimum rank of Assistant Professor, have proven excellence in academic and/or research work in their chosen field of specialization within the abovesaid priority thrusts.”

Three professorial chairholders were selected from UPD for Academic Year 2010-2011. The other two grantees are Dr. Ramon L. Clarete, a professor from the School of Economics and Dr. Larry N. Digal, an associate professor at the UP Mindanao College of Science and Mathematics. All three awardees are all expected to deliver their lectures at the SEARCA Agriculture and Development Seminar Series.
