Nominees forum held

The nominees answer questions from the floor.

All eleven candidates for the next UP President were placed on the hot seat last September 24 at the UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (NISMED) Auditorium for the forum entitled “Search for the Next UP President: Nominees Forum.”

The entire UPD community was on hand live to see the 11 nominees present their visions and answer questions and issues regarding the present and future of the University. Other constituent universities participated through video conferencing.

The eleven nominees (in photo, left to right) are: Luis Rey Velasco (concurrent UPLB Chancellor), Benjamin E. Diokno (School of Economics), Ma. Serena I. Diokno (College of Social Sciences and Philosophy), Consolacion R. Alaras, (College of Arts and Letters), Patrick Alain T. Azanza (College of Education), Virginia A. Teodosio (School of Labor and Industrial Relations), Raul C. Pangalangan (College of Law), Esperanza I. Cabral (UP Manila), Alfredo E. Pascual (Regent, University of the Philippines), Sergio S. Cao (College of Business Administration, concurrent UPD Chancellor) and Leonor M. Briones (National College of Public Administration).

Each nominee was first given 10 minutes to present their individual plans and platforms for the University. They were then subjected to four rounds of questions, which were gathered from the audience as well as those in the participating constituent universities.

In each of the three succeeding rounds, each constituent university was allowed to ask one question while the last five questions came from the live audience. The mechanics of the forum can be found here at the UP System website at http://www.up.edu.ph/features.php?i=225.

It is the second of the three-part activity to get to know all 11 nominees as well as allow the constituencies to raise issues and concerns for the next UP administration.

The forum was also streamed live over the internet and over DZUP 1602. The third and last part will be held on Thursday, October 14 at the Science Hall UP Manila.

The Board of Regents will elect the next UP president on November 19 at the BOR room in Quezon Hall.

The curricula vitae and vision papers of the nominees can also be found at the UP System website at http://www.up.edu.ph/features.php?i=221.
