The search for the next UP Diliman Chancellor is on. Five faculty members accepted their nominations and expressed willingness to serve as Chancellor of UP’s flagship campus.
The nominees are: Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza from the College of Education, Dr. Sylvia E. Claudio from the University Center for Women’s Studies, Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara from the College of Engineering, Dr. Caesar A. Saloma from the College of Science and Dr. Rolando B. Tolentino from the College of Mass Communication.
If selected, the Chancellor’s job is on a full-time basis for the full term of three years.
The Search Committee is inviting all sectors of the University to participate in the public forums they have arranged to better know the nominees.
Nominees’ forum with students will be held on January 24 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the National Institute for Science and Math Education Development (NISMED) Auditorium. The forum with the faculty will be on January 31 at the College of Law Auditorium from 9 to 11:30 a.m. On February 7, the nominees’ forum with the administrative staff and REPS will be held at the Claro M. Recto Hall, Bulwagan ng Rizal from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Professors and instructors are requested to excuse from their class those students who wish to attend the January 24 forum. Likewise, the heads of offices and units are also requested to allow their staff to attend the February 7 forum on official time.
Each forum will start with the 7-minute slide presentation of the nominee’s vision paper followed by an open forum wherein the search committee will provide blank sheets to the attendees and will collate submitted questions. Each nominee will be given three minutes to answer the questions and the unasked ones shall be noted for possible use during the individual interview.
The members of the Search Committee are: Dr. Jose Ernie C. Lope (senior faculty representative), College of Science Institute of Mathematics associate professor, Dr. Corazon de Ungria (for the REPS), National Science Research Institute DNA Analysis Laboratory head, Dr. Ramon Guillermo (senior faculty), College of Arts and Letters (CAL) Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature associate professor, Felix Pariñas (representative from the administrative employees), CAL Department of European Language Audio Visual Equipment Operator, Raisa Ty (student representative), College of Social Sciences and Philosophy graduate student, Professor Marivic Raquiza (junior faculty representative) of the National College of Public Administration and Governance and Professor Roland Simbulan (President’s representative) of the UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences Department of Social Sciences.
For an organized private consultation on February 3 (10am-12nn) at the BOR Meeting Room in Quezon Hall, the Search Committee requesting all interested parties to make an appointment by sending an email at searchcommittee@up.edu.ph, briefly explaining the need to meet with them in private.
