(College of Engineering)--Further strengthening its commitment to provide world-class facilities and services in support of research and teaching, the College of Engineering (CoE) Library will inaugurate the Learning Commons Facility on March 18. The facility was made possible by funds from UP Diliman and the Department of Science and Technology - Engineering for Research and Development for Technology (DOST-ERDT) Project.
The Learning Commons is a product of COE Library’s commitment to provide a world-class research facility whose collections and services may help students and the faculty to produce outstanding research outputs and relevant teaching methodologies. It offers innovative services and resources for students, faculty, and alumni to support and enhance learning, writing, research and use of technology. Using the “one-stop shop” concept, it will be a central venue for access to information housed within the library and beyond. It also aims to be a central gathering place for students to study and dynamically engage in shared learning.
The TLC, as the latest addition to the Library’s services, will be dedicated for the exclusive use of CoE students and faculty. It shall provide state-of-the-art equipment and services in support and promotion of collaborative learning.
It provides various equipment which will enable social learning, such as: 30 iMac stations available for multimedia editing and access to internet/online resources; eight dedicated portals to access e-journals, e-books and other databases; five powerful PCs for collaborative group work; 3 Kindle Readers to read Electronic Books; two Podcast stations; interactive multimedia room equipped with multimedia projector; interactive board and state-of-the-art television that may be used to view video materials, conduct lectures and group discussions.
The following is the complete list of services offered by the facility: access to the internet, online and local databases, podcasts and vodcasts; E-journals; E-books; audio/ video/photo editing; collaborative workstations; interactive multimedia viewing room; printing; scanning; and CD / DVD burning.
