Last February 25, six faculty members of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) received the Gawad Chanselor Natatanging Guro, UPD’s highest academic distinction for excellence in teaching in simple ceremonies at the Malcolm Hall Auditorium.
They were Dr. Alexander C. Cortez of Department of Speech Communication and Theater Arts and Dr. Priscelina Patajo-Legasto (Department of English and Comparative Literature), from the College of Arts and Letters; Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta (National Institute of Geological Sciences) and Dr. Windell L. Rivera (Institute of Biology), from the College of Science; Dr. Erniel B. Barrios of the School of Statistics and Dr. Gerard Rey A. Lico of the College of Architecture.
The Gawad Chanselor is an annual ceremony recognizing the outstanding performance of UPD faculty, students, research and academic staff instituted in 1992. The selection process for this year’s honors derby were made more stringent, making the current crop of awardees truly the University’s best and brightest.
Together with the faculty, three students along with two Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) and three administrative personnel were also recognized for their outstanding achievements during the period.
The students are Raymund Siegfrid O. Li (College of Business Administration), Roana Bianca C. Reyes (College of Engineering) and Maria Danica I. Jacinto (School of Economics). The REPS were Jeffrey C. De Vero (National Institute of Physics) and Verna C. Lee (College of Education Library). The administrative personnel were Erlinda M. Magayones (College of Home Economics), Macaria B. Francisco (College of Social Sciences and Philosophy) and Rogelio T. Estrada (Supply Property Management Office).
