CBA students are regional champions

(UP CBA)--A team composed of five students from the UP College of Business Administration (CBA) won first place at the Asia-Pacific Regional Finals of the 4th Global Investment Research Challenge of the CFA Institute held 6 March at the Marriott Hotel in Resort World.

Representing the Philippines, the team is composed of 5th year BS BAA students namely:  Raymund Li (2010 Gawad Chanselor Awardee), Pamela Li, Jose Mari Punzalan, Rachelle Denise Sison, and Choerleen Bianca Solema. The group bested 15 other teams from 14 countries and will move on to represent the Asia-Pacific Region at the Global Finals in Hong Kong 17 April.

The competition “gathers students, investment industry professionals, publicly-traded companies and corporate sponsors together locally, regionally and globally for a real world competition. In order to promote best practices in equity research and company analysis, student research, analyze and report on a company as if they are practicing analysts,” notes the CFA Institute’s website.

The CFA Institute is a global, not-for-profit association of investment professionals that awards the CFA and CIPM designations.

Other universities that competed are: Fudan University (Shanghai, China), HELP University College (Malaysia), Hong Kong Baptist University, Institute of Business Administration (Pakistan), Korea University (South Korea), Monash University (Australia), National Taiwan University, Peking University (Beijing, China), Singapore Management University, SP Jain (India), Thammasat University (Thailand), Universitas Surabaya (Indonesia), University of Canterbury (New Zealand), University of Moratuwa (Sri Lanka), and Waseda University (Japan).

Winners from Asia-Pacific, Europe/Middle East/Africa, New York, and the Americas will compete against each other for the Global Championship.
