Dean Cabrido (UP SURP) sign the MOU.

(SOLAIR, 21 Feb)--UP Diliman, through the School of Urban and Regional Planning(SURP) and the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), thru the Ateneo School of Government (AsoG) forged a memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in education and research activities. Specifically, the MOU aims to promote capacity development for environmental governance and environmental planning with the overall goal of effectively responding to climate change challenges and contributing to sustainable development.

The MOU was signed by SURP Dean Candido A. Cabrido, Jr. and ASoG Dean Antonio G.M. La Vina on behalf of their respective academic units at the SURP Dean’s Conference Room on January 12, 2011, witnessed by the SURP Executive Committee Members and team members of ASoG Climate Change Program.

A central component of the memorandum involves the joint development, promotion and implementation of academic programs on climate change adaptation and mitigation. The cooperation further engages faculty support or exchange, joint research and training, consultancy services, information and publication exchange, and participation in lectures and seminars.

The MOU also draws from the principles and provisions of Philippine Republic Act 9729 or the Climate Change Law that recognizes the significant role of research and academic institutions in their efforts to address the worsening impacts of climate change.
