UP Maroons has new home

The new bunk beds at the housing facility.

(October 23)Balay Atleta, a new housing facility for student-athletes, was blessed and inaugurated on October 10 to add to the existing accommodations on campus.

Located at 51 Apacible Street in Area 3, the house was originally a residential unit for UPD faculty. It was converted into a student housing facility to address the inadequacy of on-campus residences for student athletes.

Balay Atleta— the latest abode of student-athletes.

The house is close to the University Health Service, two places of worship, the University Shopping Center, and the block where dormitories such as Kalayaan, Ipil, Yakal, Molave, Sanggumay and the newly constructed Acacia are located.

Balay Atleta will open in the second semester of the current school year and can house 50 female athletes. It will be jointly managed by the Office of Student Housing and by the College of Human Kinetics.

The Alpha Sigma Fraternity, with the support of businessman Manny V. Pangilinan, funded the adaptive reuse of the facility for student occupancy.
