HRIM students triumph in food showdown

Five students from the College of Home Economics’ BS Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management program bagged three awards in the recently concluded 6th Annual National Food Showdown held on September 21 and 22 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.

Irene Klarissa Manaig won Silver, the highest award given in the Cocktail Mixing Category with her concoction “Party Rambanog.” Carolynne Arriola with her “Sweet Realms of Encantadia” theme was awarded a Bronze medal in the Cupcake Display category. The trio of Dorothy Gail Aguilar, Miriam Floresta and Vincci Gutierrez garnered a diploma for their entry “Olympic Dreams” for the on-the-spot Decorative Cake event. The other team entries were: Ian Muyrong, Bryan Biaco and Arianne Galamay for the Chef Wars; Monica Almeida and Geraldine Feliciano for the Happy Hour Tapas; and Jessica Ado, Joery Ayalin and Mara Thea Roldan for Table Setting.

Organized by TV Food Chefs Inc., the National Food Showdown is a nationwide competition for students and professionals in the food service industry. With the theme “Showcasing Culinary Heroes,” this year’s competition, with around 30 event categories, drew 800 students and professionals from different hotels, restaurants, and hospitality management and culinary schools. —College of Home Economics
