(November 6)—It was a windfall for the UP Varsity Swimming Team as they presented their UAAP Season 75 and Sandugo University Games trophies in a courtesy call to Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma on November 5.
The team bagged first place at the 17th Sandugo University Games held in Bacolod City last October 22-28, besting some 50 teams from other participating universities.
Premiering in 1996, the University Games “was born out of the need to refine the athletic skills and expertise of college athletes through competitive sports among the various universities in the Negros and Panay islands” by pitting them against the national collegiate leagues. It is the first and only privately-run national collegiate sports competition in the Philippines.
It was a repeat of the lady tankers’ performance in the recently concluded UAAP Season 75, in which rookie Delia Cordero bagged both the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year titles, breaking two records: the 400m Individual Medley and the 200m Butterfly.—AKR
