(November 26)—Over 500 UP employees, led by UP President Alfredo E. Pascual and UPD Chancellor Ceasar Saloma, came together on this early Monday morning for a special flag-raising ceremony at Quezon Hall.
The Rayadillo Color Detail team and the ROTC Symphonic Band of the Department of Military Science and Tactics led the ceremony, which began at 7:45 a.m.
The special ceremony was called by Saloma for purposes of photo and video documentation, as material for inclusion in the 2013 UP Diliman Calendar, which will serve as Saloma’s visual annual report.
Flag-raising rites on campus were revived by the Vice Chancellor for Administration in July, mandating that a flag-raising ceremony be held every first Monday of the month at 7:45 a.m. and a flag retreat every last Friday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
This is the first time that this ceremony, a reminder of UPD’s role as the country’s only national university and opportunity for the UPD’s leaders to commune with administrative staff, was recorded for both posterity and documentation on both still and moving cameras.
After the special flag raising rites, the UP Diliman Information Office (UPDIO) took group photos of interested administrative and academic units. More than 40 groups took the opportunity, posing with Pascual and Saloma in front of the Oblation.
For those UP units who wish to have digital copies of their group shots, they may be acquired from the UPDIO on the third floor of the UP Theater (contact: 924-1882/loc. 3983 or at email@example.com) starting November 27. Please bring a USB thumb drive.—AKR
