(January 25)— The UP Men’s Basketball Team notched a 95-62 victory over the Pusan National University (Pusan U) in a friendly game held on January 18 at the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Gym.

The Pusan U’s team was composed of eight students led by its athletic director Dr. Keunmo Lee. The game was part of a week-long visit of Pusan U to UPD.

In December 2010, Lee called the College to request for Pusan U to engage in a “friendly match” with the UP Men’s Basketball Team, according to Dr. Leilani L. Gonzalo, during her term as CHK dean. The game was aimed at enhancing the skills of their team members, who are Physical Education majors, by competing with a basketball team with a different culture. In 2011, Gonzalo approved of the request and invited Pusan U to UPD.

Pusan U invited Gonzalo to participate in a basketball clinic in August 2012 in Busan, South Korea. There, she toured the university’s world class sports facilities including a “virtual” golf teaching area and a fully equipped fitness gym. She also interacted with graduate students and faculty of their Sports Science Institute.

In addition to the basketball competition, Pusan U students were given a tour of the campus and participated in a basketball clinic for the CHK/PE students. They also met with some members of the UP Arirang Club. The CHK also arranged for Pusan U’s students’ visit to the Fort Santiago and Tagaytay.
