NSYSU visits UPD

(January 16) - Delegates from National Sun Yat Sen University (NSYSU), Taiwan visited UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma (center) on January 15 at the Office of the Chancellor to discuss the renewal of academic partnership between the two universities.

NSYSU officials include Dr. Li-wei Tu (third from right), Vice President, Office of Research and Development; Dr. Quark Chen, Chairman of the Physics Department (leftmost); and physics professors Dr. Der-Jun Jang (second from right) and Dr. Feng-Chuan Chuang (rightmost).

UPD, through the National Institute of Physics (NIP) at the College of Science, had a faculty and student exchange agreement with NSYSU which expired in 2008.

In spite of the agreement’s expiration, Dr. Henry Ramos of NIP did a collaborative research with Dr. Chuang of NSYSU and Dr. Marvin Albao of UP Los Baños. The research, entitled Modeling of Co-deposition of Indium and Tin on Silicon (100): A Kinetic Monte Carlo Study, was published in International Journal of Modern Physics B, in 2011.

The exchange agreement with NSYSU aims to promote academic cooperation and to further cultural understanding between the Philippines and Taiwan.

Also present during the courtesy call were Dr. Ronald S. Banzon (third from left), UPD Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Cristine DLR. Villagonzalo (second from left), Office of Extension Coordination director. — ACG
