40 faculty members named UP Scientists

(December 20)—UP recognized the hard work and exceptional research productivity of its faculty members by appointing 40 of them as UP Scientists of various ranks under the Scientific Productivity System (SPS) in ceremonies at the Executive House on December 18.

The SPS was approved by the UP Board of Regents at its 1199th meeting on August 26, 2005.  Now on its third cycle, the SPS supports the development of science and technology and encourages and rewards scientific productivity. It has three ranks.

The appointment as UP Scientist is for a period of three years and carries monetary rewards of P120,000, P144,000 and P180,000 annually, for Scientist I,II, and III respectively.

The scientists were appointed for the period 2012 to 2014. Of the total, 24 or 60 percent were from UPD.

Appointed as Scientist III were: Dr. Perry Ong, Dr. Porfirio P. Aliño, Dr. Rhodora V. Azanza, Dr. Erniel B. Barrios, Dr. Gisela P. Concepcion, Dr. Carla B. Dimalanta, Dr. Caesar A. Saloma and Dr. Maria Helena T. Yap.

Awarded Scientist II were Dr. Cynthia T. Hedreyda, Dr. Windell L. Rivera and Dr. Cesar L. Villanoy.
