UPD Police has additional patrol car

(May 2)—The capabilities of the UP Diliman Police (UPDP) received a major boost with the loan of a patrol car from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The vehicle, a Toyota Vios, was turned over to UPD in a brief ceremony in front of Quezon Hall on April 29.

At the turnover rites were officers of the QCPD namely PSSupt. Richard A. Albano, Acting District Director of Quezon City; PPSupt Procopio Lipana, Chief Directoral Staff; PPSupt. Joel D. Pagdilao, District Directoral Staff for Administration; PSupt Nestor Abolos, Logistic Division Chief; PS1 Lerry Layug, Station 9 Deputy Station Commander and SPO1 Abner Guarin, Station 9 Supply Officer.

Representing UPD were Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma, Prof. Edgardo Dagdag, UPD’s Chief Administrative Officer for Security and members of the UPDP.

Saloma thanked the QCPD for the use of the vehicle. He said it will allow more efficient monitoring of the various areas on campus, thus reducing criminality at UPD.

Prior to the turnover, UPD had only three roadworthy patrol cars.

According to Dagdag, UPD requested assistance from the QCPD earlier this year. The QCPD responded promptly, initially donating 10 bicycles in February for the use of the SSB or Special Services Brigade in patrolling the campus.

In his response, SSupt Albano said “UP is within the area of operations of the QCPD. Helping them to prevent or solve crimes is really helping ourselves too, since eventually crimes committed on campus are turned over to us.” —CAI
