CHED “Category A” Journals.

UP Diliman has six journals with a “Category A” rating from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). A CHED “Category A” journal is credited as an international level publication. It receives from CHED P200,000 per year during the effectivity of accreditation, and an endorsement for library subscription.

Humanities Diliman: A Journal on Philippine Humanities. An internationally-refereed journal for the humanities, which comes out semi-annually and published by the UP Diliman Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.. An open-access journal, it is multilingual and both disciplinal and multi-disciplinary. Humanities Diliman is SCOPUS-indexed. It promotes scholarship in the arts and humanities in the Philippines, as well as international synergies, especially with scholars in Southeast Asia. Dr. Jose Buenconsejo is its current editor-in-chief. (Category A-1, 2013 – 2015)

Kasarinlan: Philippine Journal of Third World Studies. An internationally-refereed journal published twice a year by the Third World Studies Center, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. It provides a forum for critical and interdisciplinary perspectives on the Philippines and the Third World with special reference to political economy. (Category A-2, 2013 – 2015)

Philippine Humanities Review. Managed by the Publications Program of the College of Arts and Letters, the journal publishes scholarly, critical and analytical works on various aspects of Philippine culture, the arts and letters, as well as creative works in the broad field of the humanities. The Philippine Humanities Review is also available in e-book form (amazon.com, itunes.apple.com, barnesandnoble.com, and flipreads.com). Dr. Gonzalo Campoamor II is its current editor-in-chief. Plaridel: A Journal of Communication, Media and Society. First published in 2004 as a national journal of communication, it has since evolved to a more inclusive regional focus and has recently begun publishing papers from other Asian countries. Papers published include original research in different areas of media and communication studies in the Philippines and Asia. These can be qualitative or quantitative work in media effects, industry, political economy, subcultural practices, and journalism studies. Released as a regular bi-annual journal, Dr. Rolando Tolentino is its currentl editor-in-chief. (Category A – 2, 2013 – 2015)

Science Diliman: A Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences. An internationally-refereed semi-annual journal of pure and applied sciences published by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, its current editor-in-chief is Dr. Marco Nemesio Montaño. (Category A – 2, 2014 – 2016 )

Social Science Diliman. An internationally-refereed semi-annual journal for the social sciences published by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development. Bilingual (English and Filipino) and both disciplinal and multidisciplinary, the journal’s current editor-in-chief is Dr. Eulalio Guieb III. (Category A – 2, 2013 – 2015)

Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspective on Asia. An open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal published since 1963 by the Asian Center. One of the pioneering journals of its kind in Asia, Asian Studies offers a critical, multidisciplinary platform where scholars, practitioners, and activists can publish research that draws on the theories and perspectives from the social sciences, humanities, and/or cultural studies. Published twice a year, it features research articles, commentaries, reviews, literary works, and travel narratives.

Daluyan: Journal ng Wikang Filipino. Isang refereed journal na inaasahang mailathala dalawang beses kada taon. Ito ay monolingguwal sa Filipino at may layuning paunlarin ang pag-aaral at pananaliksik tungkol sa wika, panitikan at kulturang Filipino at pagyamanin ang diskurso sa iba’t ibang disiplina gamit ang wikang Filipino. (Daluyan: Journal ng Wikang Filipino. A refereed journal published twice a year. It is a monolingual journal in Filipino language and aims to develop the studies and researches on Filipino language, literature and culture, as well as enhance discourses in various disciplines using the Filipino language.)

Hukay. A refereed journal of the UP Archaeological Studies Program, it welcomes articles on the archaeology, ethnoarchaeology and heritage of the Asia and Pacific regions.

Journal in Urban and Regional Planning. A refereed journal of the UP School of Urban and Regional Planning, its articles aim to disseminate scholarly insights on prevailing issues shaping urban and rural systems to a wider audience. It is geared towards elevating the practice of urban and regional planning professionals; most especially those engaged in the local planning area. The journal accepts articles concerned with urban and regional planning and allied disciplines such as public works, transportation, real estate development, the environment—both built and natural; regardless of geographic context.

Philippine Management Review. An annual publication of the Cesar E. A. Virata School of Business, (VSB, formerly, College of Business Administration) it is a venue for research work done VSB. Outside contributions from other academics and from practitioners are published on a selective basis.

Philippine Review of Economics. Published twice a year (June and December) by the UP School of Economics and Philippine Economic Society, this is devoted to the publication of theoretical and empirical work in economic development. It welcomes papers about the Philippines and other developing countries. It is also a forum for research findings that show the relation of economics with other disciplines.

Philippine Social Sciences Review. A peer-reviewed journal of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, it aims to promote the critical exchange of ideas and research findings in the social sciences and philosophy among the faculty, research staff and students of the CSSP, the Diliman academic community, as well as communities of scholars in other parts of the country and the world.
